Richard Stevens joined Cluver Markotter on 1 October 2004 as an Associate and was promoted to Director on 1 May 2005.
Richard was born in Stellenbosch and matriculated at Lückhoff High School in 1988.
In 1992 he obtained his BA (Law) Degree cum laude at the University of Stellenbosch. In 1994 he obtained the LLB degree at the University of Stellenbosch after being on the deans merit list in both his LLB years. He was chairperson of the student court in his final year of his LLB studies and obtained awards/bursaries from leading law firms, Webber Wentzel Bowens and Edward Nathan Friedland for the student who showed the most promise as future attorney. He obtained his LLM degree at the University of Tübingen, one of the oldest and most famous law faculties in Germany, cum laude in 1996.
Richard commenced his articles in September 1996 at Webber Wentzel Bowens in Johannesburg after which he was admitted as an attorney in the Transvaal Provincial Division in October 1998. From 1999 he was appointed as senior lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law at the University of Stellenbosch where he is responsible for Company Law.
At school level Richard played football and cricket and his current hobbies include golf and collecting wine.
