Koos de Waal obtained both his BA (1966) and LLB (1968) degrees from the University of Stellenbosch and after completing his articles was admitted as an Attorney, Notary and Conveyancer in 1970 when he joined the firm Paul & A H Cluver, where he was admitted as a partner in March 1972. Paul & A H Cluver merged in 1973 with Markotter, Basson and Marais to form the firm Cluver Markotter.
He served for ten years as a Councillor on the Law Society of the Western Cape and in such capacity as chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.
He concentrates on commercial property work, with emphasis on the agricultural sector, estate planning and tax related matters
He served for many years on the governing structures of various local church, school, cultural, business and sports bodies.
Koos is married to Juliana and has two sons and a daughter.
He is a keen golfer and nature conservationist. His hobbies are woodworking, reading and bird watching.
