The Liquor Law Department of Cluver Markotter has been involved in obtaining liquor licences for and advising clients on liquor related matters for more than 40 years.  Our clients include premier wine estates in Stellenbosch and surrounding areas, leading producing wholesalers, upmarket restaurants and an upmarket national supermarket group.

We are equipped to advise role players in the liquor industry on the implications of the new Liquor Act (59 of 2003) as well as progress with the promulgation of provincial liquor acts.
We attend to all applications required in terms of both national and provincial liquor legislation. Our innovative use of technology allows us to lodge applications for businesses throughout South Africa. These include:
  • applications for on-consumption licences (for restaurants, coffee shops, function venues, guest houses etc.)
  • applications for off-consumption licences (for wine estates, wine shops, liquor stores etc.)
  • applications for registrations as manufacturers and/or distributors.
  • applications for relocation of premises.
  • applications for extension of premises.
  • applications for transfer of licences.applications for amendment of licence conditions (for Sunday trading, live music etc.)

Our services include the management of liquor licence portfolios of companies, more specifically attending to the renewal of licences and the audit of licences and premises to ensure that all necessary applications for transfers, removals and extensions are attended to.
